Creation myths
Different creation myths are told on Ystel but since the island left the continental cultures, the citizen don't think much about the 'solid world' and their pantheons. The endless travel of the island guarded by birds and their gods brought its people to a new own destiny. That's why the begin of the travel and the apocalypse of the old empire is seen as the creation of the world in which the Ystel people live.
God-beings of Ystel
In particular, they worship the Ice Bird as a God. Their main God and savior is Nukte, who they worship every week in a ceremony where they cast a great magical spell in his honor. As opponent, the red beast is seen.
The Ice Bird
Worshipped as a God, the Ice Bird flies around the island every 4 1/2 years, creating magnificient ice sculptures in it's wake. These last a few days, dissapear as if they had never been there. It then flies into a cave and dissapears, not to return for another 4 1/2 years. The bird is immortal and often brings gifts on its flights. The cave it enters seals itself after it vanished. The citizen of Ystel believe, that this cave is a portal to the realm of the Gods.
The Red Beast
The Red Beast appears even more rarely than the Ice Bird, a fortunate thing for the Island folk. Once it appears, it rampages through the island and then travels to the shores of Legonia and destroys entire cities. Only a group of ultra-powerful wizards can hope to put it back to sleep and this is only temporary.
Nukte
Nukte is a legendary being, appearing as a Pheonix that can transform into a human form. He has only appeared once on the Island and teached the Ystel people about magic. For this, he is worshipped as their savior and they pray for his return, which would eventually come once the Red Beast destroyed the entire Island. It was foretold that Nukte would arise at that time and fight with the Red Beast, and both would die. With Nukte's death and the destruction of the island, the end of the entire world is symbolized in Ystel tales.
