Battle of Deadwood

One of the bigger wars in the western continent named after the extraordinary use of Dragons. Between 1571-1588 o.C. the Dragon Empire and the Lion Kingdom fought this bloody war to destroy each other. There was no winner.

Reasons

Since the Lion Kingdom met the Black Dragon Army in the 15th century, the barbarian tribes of the northlands had looked on the fruitful farms of Middle fields jealousily.

While their first crusades 1507 o.C. had failed, military development and the ambitions of Merlin in domesticating dragons reformed the power of the northern forces. So when the territory of the Dragon Empire under King Torkash reached Nordkamm, Deadwood and Northmarch, old rivalism came up again and a war for power started in the 1570's.

The War

  • 1570's First squirmishes happened in Northmarch but the defence lines of the Lion kingdom were too strong for the dragon army. Even the dragon riders were beaten by the superior numbers of lion soldiers.
  • 1587 o.C. Battle of Deadwood

The biggest northern army in history attacked the lion's army in the forests of Deadwood. After one week of fighting there wasn’t a winner. The big loss for both sides changed Merlin's mind who declared his king that a victory over the whole southern kingdom would be too expensive. Torkash gave up because of empty state treasures.

  • Since 1588 o.C. no official fights are protocolled.

Results

  • The Lion Kingdom gave their villages in Deadwood up and build new cities at the azure coast.
  • The Dragon Empire concentrated exploring the cold north-east.
  • The Deadwood area left as a neutral zone, so it became a loved place for dark mages, druids and other outlaws. After these decissions, the Dragon War ended quickly.
  • Until 1642 o.C. there was nearly no political contact between Dragon empire and Lion kingdom. Only a few merchant guilds and the Blue mage society acted above the border.
