The blood wraith are a humanoid race of demon descendants. So, the Book Legonia categorizes them as lower demons. In ancient times, when demon gods were still free, some of these created their own ambassadors. Soon, a war between demons and ancient races like the elves decided their extinction. The Blood Wraith are the only one, who survived until today but ther're only a handful left. A modern Blood Wraith is a strong, black skinned creature with a bloody-red face, hands and yellow glowing eyes. Ordinary clothed in black robes.

Culture

As demon followers, their only intention is to serve those evil beeings and to bring chaos over the world. Because they're hunted by all factions the few survivors are living exiled in abandoned environments like dark caves and forests and prefer cursed or unholy places like ruins, former battle fields etc. . They mostly appear alone but rarely in small groups, too. Not much is known, so facts are all based on rumours and old reports. Blood Wraith are worshiping the demons of the ancient world as their only destiny and are known to perform human sacrifices. For these, they hunt human farmers and travellers. They perform the sacrification by tearing the spinal coulumn out of the victim and then feasting.

Evolution and the ancients

During the centuries, their power decreased much and actual individuals aren't the same creatures as their ancients once were. Although still immortal by natural, the blood wraith is a weak creature compared to the rare ancient blood wraith, which are described as violent spider-like monsters living in hidden caverns.

Mythology

The sighting of a Blood Wraith, if survived or not, counts as one of the worst omen, that can happen in legonian mythologies. In the north legonian Monotheism of Middle Kingdom, the "red-faced shadows" are mentioned as messengers of death and evil itself in many religious tales. In these stories they have much more abilities as in reality e.g. transforming into all kind of ugly animals, powerful magic etc. . In elven culture they're seen as old enemies and would be hunted immediate after discovery. Also in southern religions, the Blood Wraith are mentioned, but while not seen for hundred of years, their importance changed a lot. So, in ark'tohlian mythology, the Blood Wraith were once attendants of the god Arkos but became jealous. In recent time,the great heptarchy tries to connect their origin with Airos to decrease the followship of that unliked temple. It's mentionable, that especially mankind, who never met any Blood Wraiths and came back alive, use their name in many tales but also political propaganda. For example, in most wars, the enemy is suspicious to be allied with a secret Blood Wraith cult sending their prisoners to them for sacrifications. Of course, none of these theories were ever prooven by facts. While conspiration theories are very popular, the real Blood Wraith menace is low, but not for their victims.
