History

  • 748 o.C.: The Island was split from the landmass of the eastern continent due to an Earthquake caused by the Wrath of a demon god while the ancient war. It was once part of the Southern area of the continent.
  • 790 o.C. Around 40 years later, the native humans witnessed the Legendary Icebird flying across the Island. They worshipped it and it returned every 4 1/2 years.
  • 848 o.C.: The humans gave up eating land animals because they were too scarce. They began to practice magic, and those born with magical abilities were given better treatment and had a better chance of survival. They also began to break the island from the ground and to move it over the ocean with their magic. The mysterious travel started.
  • 1091-1491 o.C.: The humans on the island become more intellectual. They became a complete different people and culture at some time within the next 400 years, developing their own artistic styles, spells, technologies, and more. The bound to the continent lost and visits became more and more rare.
  • 1491 o.C.: Ystel arrived the Dwarven bay. The island was moored with legonian cultures for an entire year because of good relations with the Lion Kingdom.
  • 1648 o.C.: The island nears the coast of Legonia yet again, but this time, it's arrival is precedented.

Politics

The island council is made by the most-skilled wizards who control the island movement and discuss all problems. They also guard over the religious rules, so they're the religious and earthly leaders of the Ystel community.

Culture

The culture and arts are tight bounded to the island's religion of travel, so the Ystel people aren't interested in settle down somewhere anymore. Because of the constant traveling of Ystel, the land is not very good for growing crops. For this reason, the villagers mostly eat fish. On holidays and special occasions, they will hunt for meat but do not do so often to avoid depopulating the island of land animals, whose meat they consider a delicacy. Meat is eaten only on holidays and rare occasions because it is so scarce. The most common food is fish, with a mix of wild vegetables and some crops (those are also rare) mixed in. Eating bird is forbidden-it is a sin punishable by exile from the island. Crops are grown and harvested in an area near far from the city, so they are a rarity almost as scarce as meat. For this reason, they only eat bread and crops once every month.

Religion

The inhabitants of the Island worship birds, believing that they represent the island in it's journeys. In particular, they worship the Ice Bird as a God. Their main God and savior is Nukte, who they worship every week in a ceremony where they cast a great magical spell in his honor. Together with the red beast, these supernatural giant birds and the Myths of Ystel are the basement for their religion.

Economy

The people of the Island fish for food but they don't need as much food as a human. They will often trade with the locals when they near the coast but if they are dangerous they return as soon as possible and the island hurries off. Sometimes, when the trade is good the island remains in one location for up to two months. One of their export goods are magical artifacts or all kind of arts like jewelry.
