History

The real origin or foundation of the amazon culture is unknown but all scholars assume the first colonists as a cult of dominant women coming from the northern lands to start a new society. Over the centuries, the human culture has mixed with elvish influences. The theory is supported by old elven tales mentioning a women-ruled culture.

  • 1614 o.C. The blue mage Master Balzarro and an expedition from Middle Kingdom discovers the amazon lands and get a harsh first contact. Balzarro is still the first and only male who got the honour of a private audience with an amazon queen. Queen Norae got her daughter Asuria 9 months later. A coincidence, because everybody knows, blue mages are holding their celibacy...
  • 1631 o.C. Queen Asuria is crowned.
  • 1647 o.C. Lupians are watched on the borders to the hain of druids.

Politics

The amazon lands is a union of small settlements ruled by their village councils but seen as a whole, the ancient west is a monarchy. Queen Asuria unites the head-command over the military, extern diplomacy and trade relations. But she's mainly ambassador of the amazones and highpriestress of the Vendra temple cult. So her power is extraordinary and it's important to have a female child. If neccessary, the queen can adopt a girl of her choice to become princess.

Culture

The amazon people are devided into a strict dualism: The women and the men. The kingdom is controlled by a dominant matriarchy, all females are trained to be strong individuals, well educated citizen and good warriors while men have to do lower work and serve the women. The big differences between both society classes count in civil treatment, religion and general philosophy. Aside, the amazon culture is a healthy mix of all-day politics, arts and celebration. Especially in architecture and language elvish influences can be identified.

Family

As children, daughters are preferred because these stay at their mothers and get good education, fight training and a lot of love. Later they will inherit the mother's job or choose an own place in amazon society. The males don't give any respect to a family and are sold to Vendra temples, which feed and train all boys until they're prepared to be good husbands. The temples are payed by selling the adult men to lonely women. Once married, a husband is private poverty of his wife. Some lucky guys are able to win their women's love and gain an ordinary fair life at home, other just end as slaves. Those, who aren't interesting for women leave the temple societies and live in outer settlements where they work in ore mines and other industries. Though supplied with food and shelter, they end as outsiders and would never get any woman. The amazon lands don't know the word emanzipation and while all men are trained and educated to their rule as second-class human, nobody really cares to fight for a change. Time by time, ther're stories of Amazones leaving their homeland and joining other cultures. For these dominant women integration is hard but a few find their luck in man-ruled kingdoms.

Sexuality

Due to the extraordinary relationships between the genders and other aspects, the amazon sexual behaviour is different than in most legonian cultures. Not sex and romance is only directed to the female pleasure, also the bandwith and acceptance of practises is much more liberal than in other, basical conservative societies of Legonia. Main reason is the missing of strict rules by clerical institutions while the temples of vendra support and teach an open sexuality based on its mythology. Also homosexuality seems to be more spread in the amazon lands compared to the rest of Legonia. At least, the amazones have the only known evidences of it in arts and literature. It shouldn't be surprising that most women are bisexual. The're no studies about the men.

Religion

Like most northern cultures, the big something is seen as creation's force of Legonia. But in amazon mythology, 2 main gods are sharing different aspects of the living's sphere. Vendra and Arkando. The temples of vendra are important and influental institutions because they're responsible for the education of civil and military leaders and caring for the male children. The social system and moral law of the amazones is under strict control of the temples and so their clerical leader, the headmistress. The amazon queen is the earthly leader and her title is high priestress of vendra. The male god Arkando doesn't own big temple cults and are more whorshipped secretly by the men.

Economy

The amazones are self-supporter. Main parts are hunting, fishing and lumberjack. Generally, the more complex jobs are done by women while men are living in working camps to get raw resources like ores, wood or stone. The eternal economy in bigger populated settlements is shaped by art trade and also houseslave markets. Because the male children grow up in the temple schools, the temple societies gained a big private treasury from selling husbands to their future wifes.

Military

The armed forces are limited to a few hundred women and women only. But every girl is trained to be able to fight on axe or bow early, so all women can be called to serve in the army immediately, if needed.

Amazone warrior are known for heavy plated armor and big staff-axes while milites are light-clothed and equipped with daggers, spears, round shields or bows. The heavy cavalry are domesticating the last unicorn population of Legonia.

The borders to the south and the north-east coast are guarded by a line of watchtowers and strong stone fortresses who can hold a lot of sieges.
