The term Witch or witcher descripes a group of suspicious magicians not listed in the high mage circle of Legonia, they didn’t learn magic in expensive schools but from their secret cults and brotherhoods. They experiment with nature and life and sometimes with the rules of death. So, it’s not unusal that an independent witch choose the way of darkness.

History

The origin of free witcher circles began in earliest days of human civilization. Many scolars of official mages who failed their training didn't accept not to use magic, so they learned for themselves without the codexes and rules their former masters did. Though it was seen as crime, secret groups of normal citizen developed, who teached each other the science of elemental magic, curses and artifact enchantment and later the spellcast magic. Hunted in most societies, the witchers operated in abandoned places like swamps, deep forests or secret dungeons. This way and by using secret rules a witcher culture could developed in the northern lands and survive until today. Witchers of the southern world didn't have that luck. End of the 16th century most ark'tohlian witchers were chased away from the Ark'tohl Empire. Because also the Bat kingdom saw magic as a crime, the last groups were forced to live near the desert. Between 1613-1629 o.C. they tried to invade the southern kingdom in the Witch wars. After the end of that kingdom the fate of the survivors and their witcher culture is still unknown.

Culture

Witcher's circles are low organized societies of people from all kind of cultures and societies. Most are just known by localists and are very small. Official meetings sometimes happen while the magic markets. Isolated by themselves, witches and witchers live a secret culture with different simple rules and traditions, which variate from place to place. Other citizen don't know much about witch culture but many rumours had spread.

Superstition & Truth

Some of the myths are true, most not. People tells, that witches haven’t human friends though most are living a normal life in society. They should be able to talk with animals and many ugly creatures are seen as spies and companions of evil witches, so the humans avoid them. This can be a black cat, a raven, spiders, owls, snakes, frogs and bats. It’s not wondering, that these ones all can be found in the moor of Moorflüt, one of the well-known places for witches.

Can a witch or a sorcerer kill me? Of course, many men got lost when entering a witcher area, also defenseless kids. But death is the best you can await from a dark sorceror. They could enchant you to follow their calls as mindless slave, or they cook you living in a giant pot of hot water, or or or... Also the flying broom is a true. Witches love to create living objects. If you see something scary in the mist of the swamp sky, run away, quickly!

Are witches always evil? No, of course not. But they are shy and wants their calmness for magic experiments. So don’t await a nice encounter if you enter the ground of one of them. Last but not least, it is NOT true that a witch is always a female or even an old, ugly one. Witchers can be from all genders and races.
