History
Colonisation
The origin of the northmen were wild tribes, who united to the Black Dragon Army somewhere in the 15th century o.C. . After first failed attempts to conquer fruitful space in the south, a first culture developed in the 1520's, when the first blue mage Merlin experimented with dragons and teached warriors to control them. Merlin was also the man, who brought education to the small villages. 1556 o.C. the Dragon Empire were created and King Torkash crowned. With Merlin's help as highest advisor, civilisation was on its way.
Age of the Dragons
While the 1570's military was revolutionized and a strong army of dragon riders prepared to expand the kingdom. Until 1587, the Battle at Deadwood, the great Dragon War against the Lion Kingdom was running.
After another loose, colonisation pointed more to the east and west, where the northmen fought the vikings.
Around 1600, the golden Age of the Empire ended because environment changes caused cold winters, hunger and death, many kinds of the dragons died and after Merlin's death, nobody was wise enough to lead.
Divided
When Torkash died 1600, the Empire was devided under his sons Atork, Fenrich and Mulrich. Mulrich's lands got lost under viking attacks. Fenrich and Atork's plans to reunite the kingdom succeeded 1623, Fenrich became the first King of the new named Northern Kingdom.
Undead invasion and the New Age
When King Udalrich was crowned in 1640, the kingdom had regained its power, but a new menace threated the peasants. The Black Army build up to conquer the Northern world. So, Udalrich searched for allies, made the first official peace contract with Middle Kingdom 1642, and started the Northern Alliance 1643. After a bloody fight in the battle at Udalrichs mountain fortress 1646 the Kingdom won the war with help of their allies 1648 o.C./0 n.C. .
After the vikings discovered the Eastern Continent, King Udalrich commanded to explore the new world because his treasures are empty caused by the recent big military investments. The rush for new discoveries has begun...
Politics
The Northern Kingdom is a classic and simple monarchy. So taxes, military and economy is controlled by the king and his advisors. Traditionally, a high blue mage is the highest advisor and best educated man in the country.
What happens in the single settlements is up to the village councils or what organisation is ever made.
The current king Udalrich is living in the northern mountains on the biggest grew mountain bastion, hided in stone walls.

Allies
Although the north-western mountains officially belong to the Northern Kingdom, the dwarven homes keep a self-controlled kingdom with endless caverns, mines and natural tunnels. So, they still have an own king. The underground caverns of Dwarven Peak were discovered just a few years ago, caused of the dwarven shyness. Since then, they have an intensive trading relationship to King Udalrich. Most important goods are their minerals, they’re mining in the mountains and of course, their popular weapons and armors.

In former times, the Northmen thought of the Vikings as a wild barbarian group and didn’t want living next to them, so, these factions fought each other many times, but King Udalrich was recently able to create a peaceful relation. Actually, there is a military contract between Northern Kingdom and the Viking Fleet, the Northern Alliance This was the begin of a more intensive military alliance between the Northern Kingdom and the Vikings, who were enemies for a long time in the past.

Culture
In former times, it was the land of the dragons and legendary warriors. Today, most of the dragons are died out, but the old culture is still alive and the citizen of the Northern Kingdom are remembering their origin proudly. So, the green dragon is still the main symbol on flags and armors, green, yellow and red the traditional colours.
All in all, people are traditionals, who love to tell and listen old tales, celebrate festivals and dream of honorable fights and battles. As wild as the land is, most children get trained to warriors early, altought if most of them never leave their hometowns.
Religion is one simple kind of the North Legonian Monotheism.
Economy
Most people are craftmen, warriors or miners, so they are the main supplies of the northern kingdoms. The Northmen export ores and wood while importing corn and other food from the Middle Kingdom. Weapons are bought from the Dwarves partly.
Military
More than the economy, the strong military of the Northern Kingdom is famous. Although the old dragon riders doesn’t exist anymore, the high axemen and the light-armored but fast cavalry belong to the most serious enemies of the continent. A typical northern warrior is a brave and fearless man with wild brown or black hair and beard. But not only the offensive power is feared, the strong mountain fortresses are seen as undestroyable because since the old Dragon Empire noone succeded to conquer one of these.
