The Okeon

A mythological storm in the Azure Ocean.

The Azure Ocean can be calms and beautiful but is also known for heavy storms if you try to travel east. People along its coast are fearing the Okeon, the biggest of all storms and so, not many are travelling east. The Okeon is described as biggest storm of all time creating living waves of several hundred meters high. Nobody could survive it.

After old myths, the sea god Okeanos, in later versions, the big something itself, creates the Okeon if he's annoyed by loud noises from the ships and their crews when he wants to sleep deep under. After viking tales, a giant water snake, which is the main guardian of Okeanos is responsible to create it. The snake is also called Okeon if named. With the Big Something, the story is different and the Okeon is a warning that evil races like the orcs are awaiting on the other side of the Ocean. In the earlier times of the New Age more and more adventurers think of the Okeon as cock-and-bull story.

In the year 0 n.C. Captain Haldir crossed the eastern Azure Ocean and fought against heavy storms. The vikings believe that they just have beaten the okeon and the god's will, other seamen think, that the real okean still hasn't happened while this expedition.
