History/Origin

  • 845 o.C.: Epic nature disasters were caused by the last battles of the demongod war. The Insaani territory Ner'u-Mak had sunken into the ocean becoming the nereusian sea. The god Ner'u saved choosen people by transforming them into nereids.
  • ~1300 o.C.: Travelling nereid clans reached the northern endsea, about the same time other discover White end and its arctic waters.
  • until today: Blessings and gifts from the godess Polaris enabled the nereids to survive in the cold environments, their short evolution transformed them into the actual polareid biology.

Biology

As descendants of insaani nereids, their biology is similiar to them and still partly magical evolved. After the transformation from insaani into nereids by the god Ner'u, a second wave of unnatural evolution caused by Polaris happended. Polareids have a pale white, grey to blue skin with a thick fatty layer. This and a metabolism of less need of body temperature and small amount of cold blue blood makes them able to survive in very cold places. Their body temperature is very low and the skin less scaly than the nereid one. Though the northern and southern tribes evolved seperative from each other, they don't differ. Polareids eat all kind of fish and rare deep sea seaweed. Though ice-colded when touched they're seen as the most beautiful and attractive beeings when encountered. The only reports are from a handful of viking adventurers who survived an expedition into the far north in 1646 o.C.. The whole crew of that ship felt in love immediately after they heard a female polareid singing on the surface on an ice floe. Those, who didn't listened felt in deep love after they watched her. Nobody wanted to leave that beauty, after a quarrel between the vikings had started, the polareid disappeared and the men got back their minds.

Culture

Encounters with other intelligent species are very rare. A few ones sometimes meet Icemen in the south, in 1646 o.C. they had first seen humans on a viking expedition. So, the Polareids are very shy and mostly live alone or in small groups in a nomadic way of life hunting fishs, playing with animals or singing wonderful songs. In general polareids are lazy and peaceful but can defend themselves with a trident or spear-like weapon if necessary. Their main enemy are sharks, sea monsters or the feared.

Religion

All Polareids are partly believing in the Deep Sea Pantheon while their main focus is on blessing Polaris as godess of the endless ice and creator their race, the second important and known god is Nereus, father of the sea live. Others, like Okeanos are less to completely unknown.
