While the undead invasion of the black army, the evil black mage attacked king Udalrich's main fortress in Northern Kingdom 1646 o.C. . This siege brought the change into the whole crusade.
The Factions
The brave axemen and warriors from the Northern Kingdom hold the main fortress, supported by a small elvish nomad group. The northern warriors used all kinds of axes, short swords, crossbows and depending on their position a round or a dragon shield. At all over 400 axemen, 250 archers, 120 northern horse riders and about 150 voluntary warriors were in battle.
The elves just had 100 people split in 2 different units: The blue archers and the well-armored dark-grey Executers, who use also longswords but aren’t as good at the bow as the archers. Those river elves were travelling randomly through the north to explore new landscapes. After they heard of the coming black mage's army, they decided according to their military culture, to support the humans.
On the side of evil it’s a little bit more complex: In fact, the Black Army is a wild mix of evil guys and many different units. The biggest part consisted of skelletons, undead warriors and weaker demons, summoned by evil sorcerers in Deadwood. 400skelletons, 90 shadow riders, 400 black warriors, 20 war waggons and 20 Shazzuru demons are assumed. Other big troops were rogues serving the sorcerers and also stupid mercenaries from the Outlaw Hills. Most war machines were built by the Bull's Tribe or other bandit groups. Special units were some black lizard riding Shazzuru demons, black shadow riders and some unique men from wild races. Also Troggs were fighting in the evil lines after the black mage promised them the power over the death if he would conquered the northern world.
The Battle
The first fights were easy: The good guys tried to kill as many as possible and to hold the evil guys away from the walls, while the undead used ladders and ballists to invade the fortress. A small group attacked the main gate, a stupid idea. On the green fields the war waggons were guarding the commanders and the bigger warmachines. After one day of fights, the northern riders arrived and face the black riders.
Using explosive materials, the undead were able to invade the outer walls. So, most elves were killed but king Udalrich and some of his men survived. The black mage disappeared from battle field.
After the Northern Kingdom was safe again, Udalrich travelled to the south to meet King Leo III. Because the black mage escaped and planned another evil thing: the Battle at the Demon Portal
